RAO codes are required for every exchange carrier. The code is used to identify the carrier's routing & rating information and facilitate revenue settlements between carriers. A carrier may choose to obtain either a Hosted or Non-Hosted code. Non-hosted codes can be obtained through Telcordia, while Hosted codes are obtained through a CMDS (Centralized Message Distribution System) provider. CMDS providers facilitate revenue settlements on a national basis between carriers. For more information on RAO codes, read the RAO guidelines. |
