Code Administration covers the ordering of a variety of
codes. However,
most of a code administrator's time is spent dealing with Central Office codes,
since the ordering and maintenance process for Central Office Codes (also known
as NPA-NXX codes) is rather complex. Most types of codes require only one form
and are issued within 7-10 days of the application date. NPA-NXX codes have
a . Code forecasts must be in place before an NPA-NXX can be
ordered and the process is completed in several steps. Unless a code is
expedited, it always take 66 days from the time of application for it to become
effective. Once the code application process is completed, utilization reports
must be submitted twice a year to NEUSTAR.
